Social Networking, Online Communities, Social Networks

The Internet is the ideal place for people to meet people, not just for online dating or as buyers and sellers, but for all reasons.

Recognizing this, and with experience and success with online communities as far back as the BBS, Jim Harrer and Scott Hunter have a different vision. To make this vision come to life, Jim & Scott have brought together a group of talented people dedicated to creating the next generation of online communities and social networks.

Online Dating Communities, Social Networks and Virtual Communities

Event based Social Networking —Improving Trade Shows.

We've created the first online social networking application designed to be Event Specific. EventMingle.com enables people planning to attend a trade show, conference or event of 500 or more to meet online prior to the event. Attendees can meet other attendees based on which exhibitors they like, which sessions they plan to attend and so on. Exhibitors can make appointments with attendees, editors, job seekers and more. EventMingle.com brings organization to these events.

Internet dating — Niche focused online dating.

We have two online dating properties: MyCountryMatch.com and Coolintros.com. Both use our own relationship management technology to create a focused, niche community of single adults looking for fun, friendship and a chance for romance.

The Internet has thousands of communities today. Many are successful and thriving. However many of these communities do not mimic our traditional hometown. In most online communities, people hide behind obscure online personas and are faceless. You have no idea if you're communicating with a male, female, 15 or 55. There is no code of conduct which could invite the unacceptable behavior.

Specialty Match Network is building useful and compelling online communities.  We taking social networking to the next level, where adults behave like adults. The payoff: the chance to truly enrich their lives by making real friends, true friendships: the kind that can withstand the ultimate test, the test of time.

About the Leadership — Jim Harrer and Scott Hunter

Specialty Match Network is a made up of energetic, passionate, driven associates who love being in the business of "Bringing People Together".  Members of the Specialty Match Network team have invested all their energy into this vision and stand behind it. We would like you to meet our leaders who set the course:

Jim Harrer — President & CEO
Jim is known among the Wall Street community as man of integrity, with a drive to succeed. He is an exceptional leader who leads from the front, leads by example and is focused on meeting short and long-term goals. Jim believes the way to win in business is by building a loyal workforce, and, with a great product, by nurturing true brand passion. This results in a brand-loyal customer base where customer satisfaction and trust in the brand results in customers promoting the brand by word of mouth. A self-taught businessman, Mr. Harrer started Mustang Software in 1986 with $5k and a garage, taking it public in 1995, reinvented it in 1997, and sold it to Quintus Corporation in May 2000 for $290 Million. Quintus later became part of Avaya. Since 2000 Jim has assisted in two turnarounds. In 2001 as CEO of Web Associates, an Internet professional services company, Jim led the reorganization, which resulted in a return to profitability. In 2002 Jim became President & CEO of Starbase Corporation, an enterprise software company specializing in software configuration and requirements management, resulted in a sale to Borland Software Corporation in January 2003.  Mr. Harrer is skilled in Situational Leadership II, Change Leadership, Time Management (aka Monkey Management) and One Minute Mangement.

Scott Hunter — Executive Vice President & Chief Technology Officer
Scott has the rare ability to be both a technology genius and an exceptional communicator. With over 14 years in the software industry, Scott has extensive experience in managing software development projects — from product concept to pre-customer focus groups, engineering design, milestone planning — quality control — concluding with a successful commercial release.

Scott also has a strong business background, including experience as a technical competitive analyst, and in institutional leadership and project management. In his career, he was personally responsible for over 20 product introductions - from concept to commercial delivery — as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer for Mustang Software and Executive Vice President of Engineering and Chief Information Officer for Starbase Corporation. Mr. Hunter is a graduate of California State University, Bakersfield with a degree in Computer Science and a minor in Economics.

The H&H Factor — Harrer & Hunter
Jim Harrer and Scott Hunter met in a CompuServe chat room back in 1984. The brand that drew them together was IBM — they had each just purchased an IBM PCjr and went online to figure out how to program it. They met online, Jim living in California, Scott living in Arkansas. Over the next five years their friendship grew via email, newsgroups, and long distance phone calls. In 1989 Scott joined Mustang Software, the company Jim founded in 1987. Together they built the most successful commercial computer Bulletin Board System (BBS) software package in history — over 53,000 were sold connecting more than 4 million consumers.

Jim & Scott have worked together for the past 15 years, and they have been friends for the past 20 years. Each is talented, together they're explosive. When they speak of building online communities where people can meet and forge lifelong friendships — they speak from experience.
